The telescopic conveyor consists of two, three or more telescoping conveyor booms working inside a fixed boom. These telescopic booms can move relative to each other and to the fixed section to increase or decrease the length of the conveyor much like a telescopic. By achieving this motion the conveyor length can be increase on decreased depending on the space available inside the vehicle. For instance, for a loading operation the process starts with expanding the telescopic boom conveyor to its full length and as the loading operation progresses and the container or vehicle fills up the telescopic conveyor can be reduced in length.
This results in tremendous savings in time and effort required for loading crew to travel the entire length of the truck for picking up the cargo and delivering and stacking inside the container or vehicle. The operator fatigue due to constant traversing is also greatly reduced thereby making the operation more efficient.
The telescopic conveyor can be made in two versions – telescopic belt conveyor and telescopic roller conveyor. The telescopic belt conveyor essentially consists of a belt which acts as a flat surface for conveying any sort of loads such as bags, boxes, cartons, etc. and even items of irregular shapes. The telescopic roller conveyor is usually uses height differential to convey under the force of gravity. The use of gravity conveying reduces the cost of the conveyor and hence this conveyor is used for low cost conveying solutions.
